Our client, a well-established technology-led business based in Reading, is looking for a talented Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in the design, implementation, and support of their enterprise systems. What you'll be doing:
Design, deploy and manage on-prem and cloud infrastructure (primarily Azure).
Support and evolve virtualisation platforms (VMware and Hyper-V).
Deliver robust backup, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.
Lead infrastructure upgrade and automation projects (Infrastructure as Code).
Monitor and improve system performance, capacity, and security posture.
Collaborate with internal teams and 3rd parties to deliver scalable solutions.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to long-term infrastructure strategy.
What we're looking for (must-haves):
Proven experience as a senior or lead Infrastructure Engineer in enterprise environments.
Strong expertise across Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
Deep understanding of virtualisation technologies - VMware ESXi, vCenter, Hyper-V.
Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS/PaaS, including VMs, Networking, Storage, and Security.
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM).
Strong grasp of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, firewalls, routing, VLANs).
Demonstrable experience with backup and DR solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc).
Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds, Azure Monitor).
Solid understanding of IT security principles and compliance frameworks.
Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable (nice-to-haves):
Exposure to Linux environments.
Knowledge of DevOps principles or containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes).
Relevant certifications - e.g., Microsoft Azure Administrator, VMware VCP, or Cisco CCNA.
