Job Purpose:

Due to continuous company growth and expansion, a well-established Financial Services company are looking for a fresh new face to join them as an Initial Underwriter. This person will be reporting to the Head of Underwriting and working with a small team of highly experienced underwriters. They will play a key role in the delivery of the business strategy and strategic aims.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supporting new business relationships by providing financial advisers with pre-sales underwriting guidance
  • Initial application underwriting
  • Requesting underwriting requirements
  • Working with the Head of Underwriting and colleagues, provide input into the business' underwriting processes and practices to ensure they are viewed by advisers and members as 'best in market'
  • Managing external underwriting enquiries via all communication channels
  • Making Underwriting decisions based on customer disclosures
  • Working towards underwriting third party medical evidence in line with training plan
  • Maintaining an awareness of the importance of risk management, bringing any matters of concern to the attention of the Head of Underwriting

You should apply if you have:

  • Previous experience working in either a financial services role or able to demonstrate previous medical experience.
  • Previous experience as an Initial / Junior / Triage Underwriter
  • Previous Income Protection experience
  • Great customer service skills
  • A strong team player attitude
  • The ability to communicate routine and sometimes complex and sensitive information internally and externally
