Academics are looking for experienced Maths Instructors & Teachers for a variety of opportunities within our partnership Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire secondary schools from the new academic year!

Whether this is a long-term contract, a permanent role, or you are looking for more flexible week by week supply, here at Academics we focus your job search around you and look to provide you with the type of roles that you are looking for.

Instructors (those with a PCET qualification, however without QTLS) can be utilised in secondary schools to provide cover for a class when a teacher is not available. They have a subject specialism and they are employed on a flexible and day-to-day basis to ensure that a teacher can have time away from the classroom to carry out other duties (planning, assessment, or training days) or they may also be required to cover lessons for teachers who are away from school due to sickness, self-isolation or for any other absences. An Instructor is not responsible for planning or assessing a lesson as the original class teacher will set work for students to complete and the Instructor will manage behaviour and ensure that students remain on task.

The benefits of working as a Maths Instructor in a secondary school include:

  • Along with your subject specialism, you can support a wide variety of subjects across the curriculum!
  • Work alongside successful practising teachers to develop your education knowledge further.
  • Flexible working - only want to work 3 days one week, but 5 days the next? Not a problem.
  • Our opportunities are great as they allow our instructors and teachers to be flexible with the days that they wish to work and ideally these roles could lead to more long-term and permanent roles in some of our schools.

As an Academics Maths Secondary Instructor, you will:

  • Hold a Post-Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) qualification with a Mathematics specialism. It is desirable if you hold QTLS alongside your PCET, but this is not essential for this particular role.
  • Be familiar with the National Curriculum and the Mathematics programmes of study.
  • Have good classroom presence and excellent behaviour management skills.
  • Have a positive can do attitude to respond to busy schools.
  • Hold a current Enhanced DBS that is registered with the Update Service or to be prepared to apply for a new Enhanced DBS with ourselves (cost applied).

If you hold the relevant experience above and you wish to be considered for our exciting Maths opportunities from September 2024, please click 'APPLY NOW' below to submit your most up to date CV for immediate review.

Academics are dedicated to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect every candidate to share this commitment.
