About the role

In your role as Investment Portfolio Associate you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.

This role will provide a great opportunity to join the Strategy Delivery team within the Investment Strategy & Advice (ISA) department at USS Investment Management (USSIM) Limited – the dedicated investment manager and advisor for USS, one of the UK’s largest pension schemes.

The ISA department plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the overall investment strategy, delivering expert advice across both Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) sections of the scheme.

Within this, the Strategy Delivery team acts as a crucial link, supporting the ISA function and the Asset Allocation Committee (AAC) by translating high-level asset allocation decisions into effective, actionable investment solutions.

This includes designing and managing practical implementation plans for DB and DC portfolios, ensuring they are efficient, robust, and aligned with strategic objectives.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the ISA – Investment Strategy & Advice you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting delivery of DB/DC asset allocation including rebalancing and target changes
  • Producing portfolio analysis and develop insights for stakeholders
  • Assisting in advancing portfolio software (e.g. Jacobi) and related tools
  • Coordinating implementation of allocation with cross-functional teams
  • Monitoring and managing daily portfolio exposures
  • Developing and apply models for portfolio and risk analytics
  • Supporting continuous improvement of allocation processes and systems

About you

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Strong understanding of multi-asset portfolio management and investment principles
  • Familiarity with asset classes including LDI, equities, credit, and derivatives
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to simplify complexity
  • Proficient in Python; experience with SQL, Power BI, Bloomberg is a plus
  • Able to produce quality work under tight deadlines
  • Institutional investment experience, ideally in pensions or insurance
  • Working towards professional qualifications (e.g. CFA, CAIA, CQF)
