About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

Salary: £40,600 - £61,000+ performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for a Junior Category Manager to join our Energy Infrastructure Category Team working principally across the categories of Overhead Line and Innovation in support of our Networks Transmission and Distribution businesses and wider Group companies.  This role will cover a variety of Works, Goods and Services.  A fundamental aspect of this role is to ensure that any SSE group requirements are captured and fulfilled against the categories assigned to you by the team of Category Managers, flexing across the categories based upon the priorities set by those individuals.

- As a Junior Category Manager, you will be responsible, with support from the Category Manager(s), for conducting internal and external analysis and engaging effectively with stakeholders to determine optimum value creation opportunities for the categories e.g. sourcing strategies, process improvements, renegotiation strategies, dispute resolution etc.

- In addition, you will be required to develop relationships and work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the development and delivery of category strategies that are aligned with corporate and business unit strategies and value drivers. 

- Reporting directly into the Senior Category Manager for Overhead Line and Innovation, you will create and execute a category management approach to the procurement of a portfolio of spend to ensure generation of commercial efficiencies, mitigation of supply and construction risks and drive down the total cost of ownership to the organisation.

- You will be responsible for analysing the spend per category to detail opportunities such as; savings, strategic importance to the organisation, level of risk or to simply identify any lack of compliance with the category plan. Accountabilities will also include managing the supplier’s ability to comply with their contractual obligations as well as reducing risk and improving sustainability to improve the quality and reliability of the supply chain. 

- You will also be responsible for undertaking strategic sourcing events, negotiation and execution of effective, robust Framework Agreements, Call Off Contracts and One-off Contracts, in alignment with the category strategy.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Have experience in Procurement having completed high value complex tenders within a similar environment including experience of using NEC engineering and construction contract or equivalent.

- Broad knowledge of contracts with the ability to draft special terms for goods, work and services,  dispute procedures, with knowledge of relevant statutory and legal provisions to include construction risk.

- Be accomplished in negotiating costs and terms conditions.

- Be enthusiastic with excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills.

- Be comfortable communicating a various levels within the business including presentation skills.
