Company description
My client are a privately owned laboratory that provide independent commercial analysis to customers based around the world. They are looking for a laboratory technician to join their team! 
General:
The role of the Instrument Technician is to process samples through the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AA), ICP and C-IC to ensure that turnaround times are being met while maintaining the quality of the data and performing the required maintenance on these instruments.
Main Duties:
  • Follow in house techniques as trained.
  • Prepare calibration standards as required.
  • Digest/ prepare samples in readiness for analysis.
  • Set-up of the instrumental run.
  • Process Quality Control samples in accordance with the ISO 17025:2017 standard requirements and be able to react in case of non-conforming work.
  • Analyse data when ready and report to Operations Manager.
  • Detail oriented, can follow processes in a consistent and exacting manner despite workload.
  • Perform the daily/ weekly instrument maintenance and maintain a log.
  • Assist Technical Manager in method development.
  • Safe handling of chemicals and awareness of laboratory hazards.
  • Develop knowledge of metals and minerals qualities.
General H&S Responsibilities
  • Comply with Health and Safety requirements: as per training, policies, procedures, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work etc.
  • Actively seek to improve safety culture.
  • Report any H&S issues/accidents/near misses to your line manager immediately.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science but preferably in Analytical Chemistry
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an ICP laboratory including equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting
  • Experience of effectively communicating with people at all levels both internally and externally
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in their work
  • Ability to effectively work as part of a team and independently
  • Able to use Microsoft applications including, Outlook, Word and Excel
