Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 1-2 days a month in an office

Key Responsibilities:

Planning Responsibilities

  • Provide desktop screening and initial planning advice on opportunities and advise internal stakeholders on the likelihood of achieving planning permission and the appropriate route to doing so. Including but not limited to:
    • Risk
    • Timescales
    • Process
    • Cost
    • Required stakeholder engagement
    • Required specialist consultant engagement (ecology, landscape, archaeology)
  • Specify scope of works and appoint and manage external planning consultants, specialist consultants, and communications consultants in support of Project Development Managers.
  • Support the Project Development Managers through the planning process from EIA screening, pre-application, consultation, S106 negotiations to discharging planning conditions, planning appeal where relevant and planning amendments where relevant.

Land Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery and negotiate the terms of options, leases, purchases and agreements for land, wayleaves, easements, and highways permissions to enable the delivery of large and complex projects across Distributed Energy.
  • Support Business Development at the point of land origination and the Project Delivery Teams who have an overall responsibility for the development and delivery of our projects at differing stages in their life cycle.
  • Specify scope of works and appoint and manage external consultants in order to support the Project Delivery Teams.

General Responsibilities

  • Interrogate and challenge external consultants to ensure SSE's position is protected at each stage of the planning process.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast paced and demanding environment.
  • You will report into the Head of Land, Property and Consents and will work closely with the Project Delivery Teams.

What do you need?

  1. Likely to be degree qualified, you will be working toward or be a qualified member of RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) or RICS.
  2. You will have experience in planning and development preferably within the renewable energy sector but otherwise across either rural, residential, or commercial sectors.
  3. You will be resilient and enjoy working at pace and have the confidence, capability and independence to deliver the required outcomes.
  4. You will have a can-do attitude and be expected to identify land and planning related risks and develop proposals to mitigate them to secure deliverable projects.
  5. You will self-sufficient but enjoy working and delivering within a team environment.
