A supportive all girls secondary school in Hackney are looking for psychology graduates to work as Learning Support Assistants. This is a great opportunity for psychology graduates to gain valuable experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within a mainstream secondary environment. This role would be great for a psychology graduate looking to go into child psychology, counselling, teaching, educational psychology or clinical psychology. You would be working as a Learning Support Assistant or similar student support role in a lovely secondary school in Hackney, working with girls aged 11-16. Behaviour at the school is generally very good, with a focus on positive reinforcement and mutual respect between staff and students. The school benefits from good transport links.

The school are looking to trial strong applicants the first week of September. Please therefore only apply if you are available on a full time basis from the 2nd of September.

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Psychology or closely related subject (min lower second)
  • Interest in working with children (specifically with SEN)
  • Experience working with secondary school children (age 11-16) in some capacity
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Either have or be willing to get an enhanced DBS on the update service, plus provide two references
  • A positive nature and the ability to form strong working relationships with both students and other members of staff
  • Able to comit to a full time position until July 2025

Responsibilities:

Exact responsibilities will depend on role but may include:

  • Working with children aged 11-16 in classes across various subjects.
  • Supporting students with special educational needs
  • Working on a 1-1 and small group basis with students with SEN
  • Encourage and fascilitate independent learning
  • Supporting classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Helping to assess student progress and providing feedback
  • Treating children with respect and kindness
