Job Title: Leaving Care Personal Adviser (PA)
Objective: To provide support, advice, and guidance to young people leaving care.
Contract Length: 10-12 weeks
Salary (PAYE): £15.33 - £16.71 per hour
Responsibilities:
- Work within statutory guidelines and departmental guidelines related to young people leaving care, including asylum-seeking children and young people.
- Participate in the office-based duty system.
- Undertake direct work with young people and relevant individuals in their lives.
- Implement child protection procedures when necessary.
- Maximize young people’s involvement in community-based activities that benefit them into adulthood.
- Liaise with other agencies on behalf of young people.
- Advocate for young people’s wishes, views, and feelings.
- Attend forums related to education, training, employment, accommodation, housing, and health services.
- Respect religious, cultural, and disability-related needs of young people.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with policy.
- Promote awareness of safe care and protection, addressing risks of exploitation.
- Attend supervision, team meetings, training, and functions.
- Conduct pathway plan assessments and visits as per statutory guidance.
- Organize and facilitate groups with children and young people.
Educational Standards/Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 in Care of Children and Young People, NNEB, or BTECE.
Experience:
- Working with Cared-for Children and Care Leavers.
- Direct work with children and young people in their homes (desirable).
- Application of Child Protection procedures.
- Use of information technology.
Key Skills:
- Needs assessment.
- Effective communication with children, families, and colleagues.
- Administration, organization, planning, and record-keeping.
- Prioritization of children and young people’s needs.
- Promotion of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice.
- Observation and analysis of interactions.
- Empathetic approach in engaging parents and families under stress and experiencing loss.
Key Knowledge:
- Child development and attachment theory.
- Networks and resources available to children, young people, and their families.
- Child Protection Procedures.
Additional Notes:
- All duty days must be worked from an office base, with 2 to 3 days per week in the office as part of the duty rota.
