Legacy & Archive Assistants

We have a fantastic opportunity for Legacy and Archive Assistants at the Operation Resolve Legacy Unit. This is a Full-time role for the next 12 months with flexible working options, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

The Operation Resolve Legacy Unit are looking for individuals to assess and scan documents, imagery, audio material and other material. To prepare documents and material for transfer to The National Archives.

To independently make decisions to appropriately process and scan material that has been identified as being of historic value considering the legislative requirements and comply with policy and conventions relevant to archiving material. Also, to prepare, process and scan material in readiness for sensitivity reviews and then prepare the material for transfer to The National Archives. All applicants must be able to meet the essential criteria when applying for the post.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Responsible for accurately assessing material against legislative requirements, policy and conventions and maintaining the integrity of the material.
  • To produce and maintain Excel spreadsheets and management reports.
  • Scan material and edit as necessary using Adobe Pro software and manage the product using emails, Excel spreadsheets and various databases.
  • Be responsible for and independently determine material to be scanned or prepared for processing for archiving. 
  • When assessing material record appropriate legally based rationale for decisions.
  • Treat the material in accordance with National Archiving standards and preserve the integrity of it.
  • Accurately apply legislation and protocol and apply best practice.
  • Ensure that all material, including sensitive data and exhibits, are managed, and handled appropriately and in accordance with Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), Public Records Act, and archiving protocols.
  • Make independent assessments using professional judgement as to the type and nature of preparatory work material requires prior to processing applying legislation, policy, and conventions.

What skills do you Need?

  • Previous experience as a Legacy and Archive Assistant would be beneficial but is not essential as training will be provided.
  • Excellent IT Skills will be required including word and excel, as you will be using internal systems that will require accurate information inputted onto them.
  • Full Police Vetting will be required, before being able to start the position.
  • Excellent Communication Skills, as you will be working with other members of staff.
  • This is a full time 36.25 hours a week, Monday to Friday role but reduced or flexible hours will be considered.
  • To comply with legal obligations, in terms of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Records Act 1958 and Information Management Authorised Professional Practice.

These are temporary roles, working on a full-time basis (Mon – Fri) for 12 months. The role has a pay rate of £14.96 – £16.08 per hour PAYE depending on your level of experience.
