Legal Officer (Childcare)
  • Hourly Rate: £30 per hour (Umbrella)

  • Job Type: Part-time (30 hours per week)

My client are seeking a dedicated Legal Officer to join their team, focusing on childcare law. The role involves managing a caseload of pre-proceedings matters and supporting solicitors with care proceedings. This position requires a professional who can attend PLO meetings, undertake case management duties, and engage with the national Family Law Digital Portal.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Manage a caseload of pre-proceedings matters and support solicitors in care proceedings.
  • Attend and provide support during in-person PLO meetings, primarily on Tuesdays.
  • Conduct legal research, draft court applications, and use the Family Law Digital Portal.
  • Obtain evidence in accordance with court directions and provide witness liaison.
  • Oversee and assist paralegal and administrative staff within the team.
  • Carry out miscellaneous duties associated with the role, ensuring high-quality legal services.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Substantial vocational training and applied experience as a legal assistant or equivalent in a legal environment, supervised by a qualified Lawyer.
  • Experience in drafting legal documentation and supporting Lawyers in these tasks.
  • Experience dealing with public sector matters relating to child protection.
  • Presentation skills with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Research and analytical skills, with the ability to give clear, concise advice and enter negotiations.
  • Recent and in-depth knowledge of public child care law.
  • ILEX or equivalent (full degree level ability in core areas of practice) or equivalent vocational training and experience.
