About our Client

Our client is about to start her Master’s in Publishing at Oxford Brookes University. She is looking for assistance with everyday tasks such as personal care, cooking, cleaning, and general support around the university.

Most importantly, she is looking for support to allow them to live independently at university! Duties will vary each day with the client and this may range from attending social events, trying new recipes to cook as she is an adventurous eater or going to the cinema with her.

As written by her….

"Hi, I’m Lucy.

I’m a cheerful, happy person who likes a good laugh. I’m very chatty and have an opinion on most things.

I have Dystonia caused by Mitochondrial Disease- which is really rare, how lucky am I? This means my muscles don’t obey orders despite my brain being fully functioning. I have enough use of my right arm and hand to drive my electric wheelchair. However, in stressful or time-constrained situations you may need to guide the chair a little way. I use a standing hoist to transfer from my chair to bed/toilet/shower chair. I need help in almost every aspect of my life; this includes showering, dressing, eating and toileting. More information will be included in my care plan, but if you’re unsure of anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.

My speech is also affected and can be hard to understand at first. But, as you’ll be working with me all day, you’ll soon "tune in". I’m happy to repeat anything you don’t get first time. You may need to clarify my speech in cafes, shops or with new people.

I will need help with food preparation. I’m an adventurous eater and I like to try out new recipes. I am not very good with spicy food.

I am a bookworm- I use my Kindle without assistance. I enjoy many genres, from fantasy to historical fiction to the occasional rom com. My favourite books are Six of Crows, Legendborn, Lessons in Chemistry, Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers and Weyward. I am a keen bookstagrammer (@lucythemidnightreader); you will need to be my photographer (with my phone). I’m about to start my Master’s in Publishing, so there is a lot of required reading, but I still manage to fit in some reading for pleasure. I will need you to scribe my assignments by typing them on my laptop whilst I dictate. You will accompany me to the University, drop me off at my lectures (where I have a note taker), meet me after lectures and walk back to my accommodation. This will be my first time living in Oxford, so I want to explore the city in my free time. I want to make the most of completing my Master’s in a new place with new people.

I love going to the cinema and the theatre. I am also passionate about watching Athletics and enjoy attending live events. I adore music. My favourite artists at the moment are Sabrina Carpenter, Maisie Peters, Olivia Rodrigo, Renée Rapp and Niall Horan."
