This full-time, permanent position has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.


We are excited to be hiring a new Locality Early Help Advisor to join our fantastic Family Centres Advisory team based in Fairmont house, Leatherhead.

As part of this role, you will work in various locations across Surrey, supporting schools predominantly in the South East. Surrey County Council operates an agile working policy with opportunities to work flexibly from different locations according to business need.

About the Team

Our priority is that children and young people are safe and feel safe and confident, which means providing timely, accessible help and support to ensure they are resilient, independent and confident in their future. Early Help services work with children, young people and families in a multi-agency environment providing early help to identify and address problems before they escalate.

The role of the Locality Early Help Advisor is to support and assist schools to identify appropriate help for children and their families. You will work with schools to develop an early help offer for families to ensure they receive the right help, in the right way and at the right time; reducing the need for them to refer children to statutory services.

As a Locality Early Help Advisor you will join our Early Help and Partnerships Service. Within the service we have The Family Information Service, Parenting Coordinators, Family Centre and Family Support Programme Advisors.

About the Role

This is an important role, supporting schools to complete early help assessments and undertake actions around the family meetings. Although the role does not involve direct work with the families, at times you will communicate with families as part of the support offer to schools.

This role will require you to establish effective relationships with colleagues, partners, children and families, working respectfully in a way which encourages them to recognise what help they require and empowering them to develop strategies to support their needs. You will need to communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure and deal with each request confidentially, applying a discreet and sensitive approach to all that you do.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence the following:

  • A good knowledge of the Early Help Assessment process and leading a team around the family with previous experience of working with children and families
  • High level communication skills, including previous experience of delivering training
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience of building and maintaining successful working relationships and a commitment to working in partnership to support our children, young people and families
  • Ability to plan and organise your own workload
