Contract Mainframe Solution Architect

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Solution Architect for a contract opportunity with a leading organisation. This role is ideal for a generalist with broad expertise across z/OS, CICS, DB2, IMS, and mainframe modernisation. You’ll be responsible for designing and optimising mainframe architectures, supporting cloud migrations, API integrations, and automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

? Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance mainframe solutions

? Define architecture roadmaps and ensure alignment with IT and business strategies

? Lead mainframe modernisation, including cloud migration, API enablement, and DevOps adoption

? Optimise z/OS, CICS, COBOL, DB2, MQ, IMS, and related technologies

? Provide technical leadership in integration, automation, and performance tuning

? Collaborate with enterprise architects, engineers, and key stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience:

? Proven experience as a Mainframe Solution Architect in complex enterprise environments

? Expertise in z/OS, CICS, DB2, IMS, COBOL, JCL, REXX, and Assembler

? Experience with mainframe modernisation, cloud integration, and API development

? Strong understanding of high availability, security, and disaster recovery on mainframes

? Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools for mainframes

? Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership across projects
