Location: Felpham, Bognor Regis

Hours: Working 20 hours per week

Salary: £13.30 per hour - £14.30 (Weekends) and £15.30 (Overtime), or Qualified Maintenance at £15.50 per hour.

Role:

The Care Home, located in the heart of Felpham, is looking for a Maintenance Person. As the Maintenance Operative, you can anticipate a diverse range of responsibilities. You'll handle various tasks within the care home and its gardens, from repairing a dripping faucet to planting bulbs. You'll work independently, lead a team, and assist the General Manager with annual budget planning. Additionally, you'll coordinate with contractors for tasks beyond your team's skill set.

The ideal candidate will be friendly and approachable with experience in a maintenance role. Competent DIY and practical skills are essential, along with an understanding of legislation and requirements such as COSHH and Health & Safety. You'll need to perform necessary checks to maintain high standards around the home, ensuring residents are comfortable and safe. You will ensure the home is maintained both internally and externally.

Duties will include:

  • Liaise with the Home Manager to prioritise and complete maintenance tasks.
  • Perform general care home maintenance, including moving furniture, mowing and weeding, clearing drains and soil pipes, painting and decorating, and hanging pictures. This also involves mending leaks, changing taps, and performing ladder work.
  • Ensure all ventilation units and lights are kept clean and replace any defective light bulbs or diffusers.
  • Coordinate with the Home Manager or delegated staff member regarding maintenance work to be carried out.
  • Ensure all equipment used by the maintenance operative is clean and well-maintained.
  • Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues.
  • Perform minor fixes, such as repairing broken locks and filling gaps on walls.
  • Install appliances and equipment.
  • Check the functionality of safety systems.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems.
  • Keep records of tasks identified and completed.
  • Manage a small maintenance budget and keep records of expenditure.
  • Perform minor repairs to furniture and equipment.
  • Carry out general plumbing tasks, such as unblocking sinks, toilets, and drains when necessary.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs, including replacing fuses, light bulbs, damaged sockets, and call bells.
  • Maintain the property's decorative appearance and prepare rooms for occupancy.
  • Complete necessary reports.
