Management Accountant (Part-Qualified)
Apointe is teaming up with an evolving technology company near Reading in the search for a Management Accountant to join their finance department. This opportunity is specifically for maternity cover, offering a contract lasting roughly 15 months.
The Management Accountant is a key role within the Finance Operations team. This role has responsibility for calculating and reporting accurate cost of sales under IFRS. This position is continuously evolving as the business better understands its revenue streams and associated costs and how these are reported through the new margin reporting and billing system (Cerillion). This role will be responsible for working alongside the Revenue Accountant to accurately report costs in line with revenue recognition. Ultimately, the roles principal activities will be to continue to embed new processes and in conjunction with other Key Stakeholders, to ensure that robust controls are in place to validate reported costs and to enhance and simplify processes.
A secondary responsibility of the role will be to support the Financial Operations Manager for Revenue and Margin with the calculation and reporting of the monthly commission payments.
Hybrid - 3 days in office
Day rate - up to £350 per day depending on experience
Key Accountabilities
1. Management Accounting
Accountable for cost of sales accounting, ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting standards (specifically IFRS 15). Lead the recognition of costs and be responsible for communicating results to the Commercial Finance and Business Partners as part of the month end reporting process. Work with key stakeholders to ensure purchase orders are raised and structured correctly to enable accurate reporting.
2. Balance Sheet
Responsibility for preparing and reconciling all relevant balance sheets relating to areas of responsibility, including cost accruals and prepayments. Provide details of key balances and movements to Financial Operations Manager for review, understanding drivers and variances. Reviewing and monitoring actions to address any arising issues and maintaining evidence of review in line with Finance Control Framework
3. Continuous improvement
Work with the Financial Operations Manager, FP&A, Financial Modelling and Business Partner teams to identify and implement initiatives and opportunities e.g. process improvements.
4. Project Work
Provide accounting support for projects such as technical accounting changes, audit compliance ad disclosures.
5. Commissions Reporting
Work with key stakeholders to obtain the revenue and margin data for sales achieved in the relevant period. Calculate the commission due to the relevant sales individuals in line with the appropriate scheme rules. Partner with HR to ensure payment of commission occurs in line with payroll submission deadlines.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A strong background of working within a general accounting environment and experience of monthly financial reporting processes.
- Part qualified accountant. Ideal candidates will have experience in management accounting roles.
- Robust knowledge of core financial systems and general accounting procedures
- Adaptive to changing objectives and priorities to deliver results
