Assistant Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Assistant Accountant to join the dynamic support services team with our client. If you are motivated, proactive, and have finance experience, and are eager to contribute to the success of a growing business, this role is perfect for you.

About the Role:

As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Finance function. You will work closely with the Finance Manager, handling a variety of financial tasks that are vital for their business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor UK and overseas bank accounts and cash flow.
  • Post transactions and resolve internal and external queries.
  • Process employee expense claims.
  • Prepare cost reports and oversee stock takes.
  • Analyse cost of sales and review project costs.
  • Manage monthly nominal reports, accruals, prepayments, and invoiced items.
  • Reconcile balance sheets for debtors, creditors, banks, and loans.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and group accounts.
  • Generate budget reports and handle overseas supplier payments.
  • Update fixed asset register and post depreciation.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Handle foreign currencies and withholding tax.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within an SME.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and SAGE Line 50 or similar accounting software.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • HNC/HND Accounting qualifications are desirable.

  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet tight deadlines.
