Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Claims Specialist to join our dynamic, fast paced Claims team. As a Marine Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of marine claims, including Hull and Machinery, Ports & Terminals, Marine Trades, Marine Hull, Cargo, and Marine liabilities. Your main objective will be to provide exceptional customer service and technical expertise to our clients, brokers, and underwriters.


How you'll make an impact

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the underwriting and claims processes within our MGAs portfolios.
  • Ensure accurate reserving and sufficient financial provisions are maintained for all claims within your portfolio, in line with our company's reserving philosophy.
  • Foster strong and collaborative relationships with MGA underwriters and other internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee third-party administrators and service providers, ensuring adherence to key performance indicators and best practices.
  • Instruct and actively manage lawyers, adjusters, experts, and other external stakeholders as required.
  • Lead the delegation of claims authority and proactively adjust claims within your authority level, delivering excellent service to our customers.
  • Investigate, negotiate, and resolve marine claims in accordance with policy terms, best practices, and service standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of claims data, correspondence, and financial transactions in our claims system.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, brokers, underwriters, surveyors, lawyers, and regulators.
  • Monitor and manage claims reserves, payments, and recoveries, ensuring compliance with internal and external guidelines and regulations.
  • Identify and report on trends, issues, and opportunities in marine claims, providing solutions and recommendations.
  • Participate in claims audits, reviews, and training, offering feedback and support to colleagues and managers.
  • Stay updated on market developments, legal updates, and industry best practices in marine claims.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Marine Claims Manager or senior management.

About You

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in handling marine claims, preferably within an insurance company or broker.
  • Relevant professional qualification, such as CII, ACII, or AMIM, or working towards one.
  • Strong knowledge of marine insurance products, policies, and markets.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.
  • High level of customer service orientation, focused on delivering quality and timely outcomes.
  • Self-motivated and proactive attitude, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, able to manage changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient in using MS Office applications and claims systems.
