Mechanical Design Engineer
Location – Heywood
Term – PERM
Salary – £40,000 - £50,000 dependent on the experience of the Mechanical Design Engineer.

I am currently working with a client, who are one of the UK's leading manufacturers of process equipment. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. You will be working alongside a team of 6 Mechanical Design Engineers, a mixture of mid-level to senior engineers.  

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Work as one of the key mechanical designers within the business.
  • Provide thorough mechanical design of systems and sub-systems from defined client specification, roles will include, creating 3D CAD model, gas and pneumatics schematics, and the creation of related documentation including BOM’s, manufacturing drawings etc.
  • Gain understanding of existing products, materials, design rules and production techniques with the aim to redevelop existing products by enhancing these techniques, reducing materials costs, and improving manufacture efficiencies where possible.
  • Apply design methods such as design for manufacture, design for assembly etc.
  • Creating Pneumatic systems would be beneficial, but training can be given.
  • Knowledge and experience of design change control and release procedures MRP and or ERP systems
  • Support the manufacturing process, resolving and clarifying mechanical issues in products.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Degree / HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Inventor
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding & fabrication
  • Good knowledge of mechanisms, gearing, basic pneumatics with an ability to perform basic calculations is required.
  • Previous practical experience in a mechanical manufacturing environment is necessary.
  • Good knowledge of mechanisms & basic pneumatics with the ability to perform basic calculations is required.
  • Experience of working on multiple products
  • Experience in an R&D background.
