Our client based in the Fareham area is looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer Contractor to work on a 12 – 18 Month Contract.

Position Summary

This is a short term position to be involved in an exciting new product development for a major customer. The role will involve the development and implementation of engineering solutions to meet demanding project schedules by working alongside colleague mechanical and electronic engineers, production engineers and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will be self-starting, taking responsibility for own work to meet agreed technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

CAD and related work:

  • Create and/or modify 3D CAD data in AutoCAD Inventor
  • Draft drawings to Meggitt standards
  • Utilise standard configuration control processes
  • Ideally, bring some FEA skills using ANSYS

Problem solving and implementation:

  • Take a lead part in the development of new products
  • Driving components in by working with procurement
  • Trialling assemblies by working with Production Engineering
  • Resolving product performance and design for manufacture issues
  • Document own work formally

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience:

Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

10+ years of experience in mechanical design ideally within a highly regulated industry

Specific Abilities

  • Ability to lead a cross functional team, motivating and coordinating their effort to deliver compliant designs on time.
  • Excellent 3D modelling and 2D draughting competence with GD&T expertise, ideally using AutoCAD Inventor, but wider awareness of other packages beneficial.
  • Excellent understanding of configuration control and change management with working knowledge of configuration management systems (e.g. data vaults) for design development and production.
  • Ideally with good experience with Finite Element Analysis, with fundamental understanding of the technology and its limitations / advantages. Experience developing models and validating them with real world data. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) FEA experience advantageous but not required.
  • Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical colleagues not familiar with the subject matter. Able to clearly convey problem statements and technical solutions to senior management.
  • Ability to compile information and prepare reports drawing technical conclusions to make data-driven decisions and achieve high quality outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with large datasets (possibly in MathCAD, Minitab or python) advantageous.
