MERITUS are recruiting for a Mechanical Production Engineer to join our client within the Space Manufacturing industry on an initial 12 month contract with just a single stage interview process in place.

MECHANICAL PRODUCTION ENGINEER - INSIDE IR35 - £40 PER HOUR - SPACE INDUSTRY - STEVENAGE - 12 MONTHS - SINGLE STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS

Support the mechanical Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) of spacecraft and payloads, including process and procedure creation using 3D Experience. Responsibilities include hardware integration (e.g., solar arrays, panels), environmental testing support, and collaboration across our client's sites and departments.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Preparation
  • Participate in design for manufacture reviews (DMU)

  • Create work instructions, AIT plans, and procedures

  • Define and support procurement of MGSE

  • Drive satellite appendage installation planning

  • Support documentation via DDMS and MBOMs

Project Operations
  • Provide hands-on production floor support

  • Support unit installations and integration flow

  • Create rework instructions and manage required tooling/parts

  • Conduct PFMEA, root cause analysis, and quality reviews

  • Resolve observations and support issue tracking

Non-Project Work
  • Design tooling/build aids

  • Contribute to R&D initiatives

  • Develop and maintain training modules

  • Standardize and improve working methods and processes

Essential Skills & Experience
  • HNC (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering

  • Strong understanding of mechanical integration in aerospace or similar sectors

  • Experience with complex mechanical systems and high-quality documentation

  • Familiarity with environmental testing (vibration, acoustic, thermal)

  • Proficient in 3D Experience (Delmia), SAP, and DDMS

  • Flexible to work offsite, shifts, and on-call as needed

  • Strong planning, time management, and communication skills

Desirable Experience
  • Aerospace or satellite integration background

  • Cleanroom experience

  • Experience with FMEA, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement

  • Knowledge of RF risks and health & safety regulations

Competencies
  • Proficiency in AIT facilities, tools, and traceability standards

  • Skilled in writing assembly/test documentation (routing cards, work orders, procedures)

  • Ability to ensure process compliance and documentation integrity

  • Familiarity with cleanroom/workshop and H&S best practices
