Our client DENSO Marston, who are a global manufacturing organisation based in Shipley, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, degree level Mechanical Test Engineer preferably having worked within an automotive or heat exchanger environment.

The Test Department at DENSO Marston provides a complete and efficient mechanical testing service to the product engineering and quality departments. The position of Test Engineer offers an interesting and varied job for an individual who has practical & theoretical engineering abilities and a constantly questioning mind.

A large selection of engineering disciplines is employed; mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, control and instrumentation, as well as theoretical engineering. There is also the chance to use up to date analysis equipment and software packages. Specific knowledge of heat exchanger thermal performance testing and vehicle instrumentation & testing would be a distinct advantage.

Working Hours / Benefits
Mon-Thurs      8.30am – 5pm
Fri                    8.30am - 1.30pm

Key Responsibilities
  • To implement tests to the criteria laid down in the relevant specifications to allow validation of the company’s products.
  • To develop new or modify current tests and rigs to meet changing customer requirements
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of tests conducted (IATF16949).
  • To compile test reports, pass judgment on the test results obtained and approve test reports compiled by Test Technicians
  • To assist/advise other departments in the choice of suitable tests where unspecified.
  • Product investigation testing: Prepare heat exchangers (strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure transducers, thermocouples etc.) then acquire & analyse data via various DAQ systems for discussion with customers.
  • Work with suppliers on the specification & acquisition of new capital equipment.
  • Organise external maintenance work when required and liaise with contractors.
  • Mentoring test technicians.
  • To ensure that equipment is maintained and calibrated to the necessary standards.

Experience / Qualifications
  • A minimum HNC/HND engineering qualification, an engineering or science degree is preferable
  • A practical aptitude, a good knowledge of general engineering skills and practical abilities, workshop and fabrication skills.
  • Test rig problem solving capability (mechanical, electronic, software, control systems etc.)
  • Test set up, product instrumentation, data acquisition & analysis.
Experience in the following would be beneficial but not essential:
  • Fatigue analysis (nCode).
  • Capability in strain gauging, vibration analysis, measurement transducers and LabVIEW programming.
  • Project management experience (new equipment)
  • Analysis, measurement transducers and LabVIEW programing would be beneficial.
  • Good communication skills are essential along with the ability to work as part of a team.
