Media Relations and PR Officer
  • Contract: Initial 3 months

  • Pay Rate: £20 per hour (PAYE)

Stockport Council are looking for a Media Relations and PR Officer to join their team on an initial 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating and promoting news stories across various media platforms, developing relationships with the media, and supporting our communication efforts with well-crafted content.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Generate regular news stories for use across traditional and digital media platforms.
  • Sell stories to local, regional, national, and trade press.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media and journalists.
  • Prepare briefing notes and assist in preparing speeches for senior workforce members and local councillors.
  • Write award entries to showcase the ambitious projects within our borough.
  • Liaise with external designers and printers to produce marketing materials and collateral in line with brand guidelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrable track record of working in a media relations role within a large, complex environment.
  • Proven experience in writing stories, press releases, and other content for multiple audiences across various platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing excellent relationships with journalists and media.
  • Experience in selling stories to various levels of press.
  • Ability to translate complex information into engaging content for a wider audience.
