NOC Engineer 

Hybrid 

Greater Manchester

As part of the Operations team, you will manage, maintain, and improve the critical network infrastructure for consumer and business products.

While commercial experience as a NOC Engineer in an ISP is beneficial, having the necessary skills and aptitude is more important. Experienced team members will support your skill and confidence development.

You will collaborate with a diverse team of Network and Infrastructure engineers and interact with internal and external stakeholders, including third-party suppliers, technical support, and provisioning teams. Effective communication skills are essential to convey technical information appropriately.

You will work closely with the Network Engineering team, requiring a solid understanding of networks and systems.

This role requires participation in a 24x7 support rota for key ISP services, including planned and unplanned out-of-hours work.

As incident managers in the Major Incident process, NOC Engineers ensure prompt communication, assign incidents to the correct resolver group, and manage incidents to resolution.
You will be part of a wider engineering team managing projects in Connectivity, Security, Network Expansion, Hosting, and Cloud solutions.

Reporting to the NOC Team Leader, this role requires a broad range of skills, from networking to systems engineering and awareness of industry technologies.


Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in a 24x7x365 shift rotation
- Ensure stable and reliable network services
- Manage major incidents affecting the customer base
- Monitor the UK national network's performance
- Troubleshoot network and hardware issues
- Generate and respond to trouble tickets; handle carrier interface and escalations
- Deploy and maintain network monitoring, analysis, and reporting tools
- Apply configuration changes via change control systems
- Install network hardware and software
- Provide 3rd level support for single-point faults
- Respond to and manage incidents during network or service failures
- Produce and maintain project documentation

Skills & Experience:
- Experience with network equipment in an IT environment or large NOC
- Proficient in ticket triage and prioritization
- Ability to work autonomously and manage workload efficiently
- CCNA certified or equivalent knowledge
- Understanding of IP Protocols, IP filtering and Firewalling, Routing Protocols, MPLS, Ethernet
- Preferred experience with Juniper, Cisco, Adva
- Basic Linux/UNIX skills are a plus
