Outreach Learning Support Assistant

Role Overview:


As an Outreach Learning Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a young male student with Global Developmental Delay, ASD, and anxiety. The student has a good sense of humour and enjoys art, PCs, gaming, cars, GTA, Pokemon, and baking. He is most confident when working with dogs and animals and currently accesses Dedham Therapy Farm. Your role will involve helping him build trust and access the community safely.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalised 1:1 support tailored to the student's needs during home sessions, community outings, and other settings.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualised learning and support plans.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment to help the student stay calm and engaged.
- Support the student in developing academic, social, and emotional skills.
- Monitor and report on the student's progress and behaviour.
- Manage anxiety and provide emotional support.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure cohesive support for the student.
- Facilitate communication between the college, the student, and the family.
- Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to suit the student's interests and needs.
- Participate in training and professional development to stay current with best practices in supporting students with special needs.
- Engage with the student's interests, such as art, gaming, cars, Pokemon, and baking, to build rapport and support learning.
- Support the student during activities at Dedham Therapy Farm and other community settings.

Requirements:
- Experience working with students with Global Developmental Delay, ASD, anxiety, or other special educational needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the student.
- A proactive and supportive approach to student engagement and learning.
- Trustworthiness and the ability to build a strong rapport with the student.
- Relevant qualifications in education or support work are desirable.
