Meridian Business Support are working with our fantastic client within the Public Services sector, they are looking for a Payroll Officer (12 Month Contract) to join the team based near the Swindon Office.
About the role
You will be responsible for managing the monthly payroll activities and ensuring that accurate data is provided to third party payroll provider.
Key Accountabilities: 
  • Recording payroll data in the Access system
  • Maintains payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating and inputting data.
  • Calculating overtime, salary increases and other payroll changes when managers or employees request this.
  • Answering and resolving payroll enquiries quickly and efficiently via email and telephone
  • Monthly checking of payroll for all Groups
  • Providing reports for schools to check monthly payroll
  • Producing reports on an adhoc basis
  • Sending out P45s and P60s
  • Adheres to payroll policies and procedures and complies with relevant laws
  • Identifies, investigates and resolves discrepancies in timesheet and payroll records
  • Maintaining compliant policies and procedures
  • Ensuring BACS payments are signed off and sent on schedule with Finance and HR Director
  • Calculating adjustments for new starters, leavers and job changes making sure the details entered are inputted correctly
  • Liaising with payroll contact to help calculate over payments and underpayments for staff
  • Producing maternity schedules for employees, calculating the payments each month along with SMP
  • Calculating SSP and occupational sick pay
  • Processing pension opt outs/opt ins and retirement paperwork
About you:
  • Payroll experience
  • Payroll qualification or working towards
  • Familiarity with payroll software
  • Excellent calculation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Work to tight deadlines
  • ALT Safeguarding and Data Protection training (willingness to complete)
  • Knowledge of tax codes and procedures (desirable)
  • Must be able to pass DBS checks
This is a full time role working Monday to Friday 37 hours a week on a 12 Month contract, offering circa £28,000 - £35,000 plus great benefits including 31 days holiday + bank holidays.
