Job Title: Literacy Intervention Specialist
Location: SEMH Provision in the Chesterfield area
Salary Range: £120 - £130 a day
Start Date: Immediate or September 2024

SEMH Provision in Chesterfield is in need of a dedicated and adaptable Literacy Intervention Specialist to provide targeted phonics, literacy, and reading support at our new educational facility. Our provision serves children who are either at risk of, or have already experienced, permanent exclusion from mainstream education. Many of our students face significant challenges, often demonstrating complex needs and behaviours that hinder their academic progress. A large portion of our student body struggles with reading comprehension, possessing skills well below their expected grade level.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying students at Key Stages 3 and 4 who would benefit from reading interventions, implementing diverse teaching strategies, and meticulously tracking student progress and outcomes. Our goal is to improve student's reading skills so they can effectively engage with their academic subjects and transition successfully into society post-graduation.

Applicants should possess a strong background in Read Write Inc Fresh Start or a similar Phonics scheme and should demonstrate a deep understanding of supporting individuals with behavioural, emotional, and social challenges. This role demands resilience, high expectations, and a sense of humour. Working primarily on a one-on-one basis with students, candidates must excel in building meaningful relationships. Collaborating closely with the Site Lead and Phonics Lead, you will play a key role in shaping and enhancing our phonics curriculum, ensuring the availability of necessary resources and materials. Furthermore, you will contribute to staff development and promote a culture of reading across the provision, even through remote means.

This position will be stationed at our new establishment in Chesterfield or its environs, with mileage reimbursements provided for travel to alternate sites. Occasional travel to other Provision locations for meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities may be required, necessitating daily access to transportation with business use insurance coverage, potentially including the transportation of students in your own vehicle.
