As OCU continues on a fantastic Journey of growth we are looking for an experienced Plant Hire Desk Supervisor to join our team based in Borehamwood.

The Plant Hire Desk Supervisor is responsible for the management and coordination of plant and equipment hire for construction and engineering projects. The role involves ensuring the availability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of plant equipment, such as excavators, loaders, and cranes, for various projects.

  • Responsibilities
    Coordinate and manage the daily plant hire requirements for multiple construction sites.
  • Ensure timely delivery and collection of plant equipment to and from sites.
  • Liaise with site managers, suppliers, and subcontractors to arrange plant hire as per project requirements.
  • Day to day management of email box and hire requests.
  • General administrative tasks, order number raising insuring accuracy
  • Maintain accurate records of plant equipment inventory, usage, and availability.
  • Monitor and manage plant hire schedules to ensure optimal utilisation of resources.
  • Keep track of maintenance schedules and ensure equipment is serviced and maintained properly.
  • Ensure OCU Plant utilizes its only equipment.
  • Negotiate hire rates and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Monitor and control plant hire costs, ensuring they remain within the allocated budget.
  • Process and verify hire invoices, ensuring accuracy and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Ensure all plant equipment complies with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular checks and audits to ensure equipment is safe and fit for purpose.
  • Report any equipment faults or issues and arrange for necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with site teams, suppliers, and other relevant parties.
  • Resolve any issues or complaints related to plant hire promptly and efficiently.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on plant hire utilisation, costs, and performance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to plant hire agreements, certifications, and inspections.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and forecasts as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualification in logistics, construction management, or a related field is desirable.
  • Proven experience in plant hire, equipment coordination, or a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in PC operating systems (Word / Excel /Outlook)
  • Experience with plant hire management systems and software is advantageous. (Syrinx)
  • Management of plant hire desk
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill, to all stakeholders
  • Good customer service
  • Good understanding of plant equipment types and their applications in construction.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to plant hire and usage.
