Plant Mechanic
  • Salary: £16.26 per hour PAYE
  • Location: Leicestershire
  • Job Type: Full-time, 37 hours per week

My client are seeking a skilled Plant Mechanic to join their Fleet Services team. The role involves servicing and repairing plant machinery in a safe, efficient, and economical manner. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with a Level 3 qualification in plant maintenance or an equivalent alternative, and experience working in a fleet workshop or garage.

Day to day of the role:
  • Drive and manoeuvre plant as necessary, recover defective or damaged equipment, and carry out a full range of technical checks and diagnostic tests.
  • Observe, recognise and report on plant component or system defects, or impending failure, assess, record and/or cost the repair as appropriate.
  • Conduct routine inspections, service, and repairs of selected plant in the fleet according to the schedules issued by the Stores Depot, and in accordance with prescribed quality standards, utilising specialist services as required.
  • Examine equipment and report verbally or in writing upon the condition, roadworthiness, and safety.
  • Perform both mechanical and electrical repairs and/or adjustments as required, under the instruction of the prescribed quality standards.
  • Interpret and implement technical service instruction data, and manufacturers’ modifications.
  • Maintain a personal tool kit, special tools, and equipment in a good, safe, secure condition.
  • Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours and undertake departmental standby rota responsibilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in plant maintenance or an equivalent alternative.
  • Experience working in a fleet workshop or garage.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety Policy and its application to workplace safety.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical faults and use electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Good written and verbal communication, liaison, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and plan, organise & prioritise work within tight timescales.
  • Valid driving licence and ability to provide own transport.
