Policy Planner - Senior - Interim

Hays are delighted to be working in partnership with a Central London Borough on the recruitment of a temporary Senior/Principal Planning Policy Officer. This opportunity is open to candidates experienced at senior planning level and upwards.

Your new role

• Prepare for, attend and present key arguments on behalf of the organisation as the local planning authority at the examination hearings
• Provide the additional capacity to allow and support other officers in their preparation for the hearing sessions
• Providing expert advice on planning policy matters in relation to the council's duties as the local planning authority, keeping up to date with key issues affecting policy development and implementation
• Liaising with the GLA, neighbouring boroughs and others in relation to issues.
• Preparing high quality presentations, briefings, committee reports and policy papers for the council and members.
• Dealing effectively with correspondence and enquiries on issues related to work responsibilities from officers, members and the public in a timely and appropriate manner, providing good customer service at all times.
• Covering, as required, the day-to-day tasks of the Head of Planning Policy in his/her absence, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Policy & Strategy.

What you'll need to succeed

• An extensive background in an LPA planning policy team
• Experience in taking Local Plans forward to the examination stage and attending hearings.
