We are working closely with highly regarded and successful mid-market debt fund in the North West. Due to the dynamic growth and success of the fund our client is looking to add to its Portfolio, Credit and Risk function

You will have expose to a wide range of transactions across multiple sectors. As a portfolio director you will build a strong network of internal and external stakeholders.

As Portfolio Director Credit & Risk your responsibilities and duties will include:

Role and responsibilities

  • The portfolio team are responsible for ultimately responsible for the monitoring and assessment of credit risk, setting / delivering strategies to protect our investments and deliver optimal outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Financial data - cash flow, P&L, sales, revenue, margin and other business specific MI / KPIs - is submitted directly to a Power BI database. The team are responsible for set up, monitoring and analysis of this data to assess and project the financial and operational impact of internal / external risks.
  • The role requires someone comfortable with data, being adept at identifying trends and highlighting areas that require further investigation or analysis.
  • Where challenges are faced, more detailed, focussed analysis will be required with cash flow monitoring, sensitivity analysis and covenant modelling a core aspect of the role.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management is also fundamental to the role, developing and fostering relationships with C-Suite and below with the support of the senior team, PE and advisor network is advantageous but not essential.
  • Internal governance and reporting also form part of the role, with the invested IT platform minimising manual processes freeing up the team to spend time on focussed, value add credit risk management.
  • Monthly portfolio meetings require team members to present views on recent and forecast performance, conclusions and recommendations on strategy.
  • Follow on funding assessments, writing credit papers to support requests and presenting to Investment Committee is also a key part of the role.

Key attributes:

  • Strong credit analysis skills, with debt/credit restructuring experience.
  • Clear, strategic, intelligent and tactical thinking to resolve problems with the ability to exercise judgement.
  • Ability to assimilate information rapidly, identify key risks and make articulate recommendations in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to deal with multiple cases at one time
  • A track record of working as a team - seeking best practice and sharing it, developing others and helping each other in difficult circumstances.
  • A track record of being proactive with a desire to get involved and get the job done.
  • A good knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Customer facing experience.
  • Relevant credit risk and analytical skills with significant focus on Reputational Risk and the Bank’s Conduct and Integrity
  • Clear, strategic, intelligent and tactical thinking to resolve problems. Ability to exercise judgement.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively together with an aptitude to persuade and influence others.
  • Ability to assimilate information rapidly and identify key risks.
  • High level of financial literacy with ability to interrogate and challenge financial information.
  • Good understanding of CMB product range, structured facilities and pricing, as well as business strategy.
  • Experience of PE and / or leverage structures.

It is not essential, but it would be highly advantageous if you’re ACA/ACCA qualified with experience in Accountancy/Advisory
