We have an exciting opportunity for a Pre-Construction Engineering Manager to join our team within Vistry South East Midlands, at our office in Leicester. As our Pre-construction Engineering Manager, you will provide lean but robust engineering strategies as part of an established, successful land and development team. Based in the Leicester office covering all housing sites in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Initially, you will be working with the land team to de-risk bids and support the due diligence process for land acquisition approval. This would include technical reporting and providing strategies for drainage, cut & fill, retaining walls, foundations, and utilities. Support with groundworks estimating and procurement would also be provided. This would then follow through to the development team, supporting planning applications with the necessary technical input and engineering strategy. External engineers would be utilised where necessary to add detail to the proposed strategy for checking and presentation purposes. The engineering strategy would be handed over to the technical team for the detailed design stage.

The role requires the production of accurate value engineered information delivered in line with agreed programmes and budgets.

    • HND/Degree in Building Studies/Construction/ Engineering or equivalent
    • Good level of IT literacy with experience of AutoCAD, Outlook, Excel, Word, and Earthworks modelling software
    • Experience of technical and engineering aspects of house building design
    • An in-depth understanding of Highway & Sewer Standards
    • Construction Design & Management Regulations
    • Substantial experience working within a residential housebuilder or equivalent
    • Extensive experience using AutoCAD
    • Experience using engineer packages such as Microdrainage, PDS.
    • Experience of leading the engineering strategy and working in a team
    • Understanding of changes to regulations and legislation
    • Strong mathematical ability
    • Able to analyse complex data and critically evaluate plans
    • Good decision-making skills
    • Good understanding of budget management
    • Able to direct external consultants
    • A good communicator/listener
    • An awareness of the social and environmental impact of your work

    • Supporting the land team with the due diligence review and delivery of technical and engineering information required for land appraisals and acquisition.
    • Establishing the engineering principles and strategy on all sites.
    • Supporting the development team with the technical and engineering design information required to accompany planning applications.
    • Coordination of external consultants in the production of technical and engineering details and drawings required through the planning application stage.
    • Engaging with utility providers for incoming mains service proposals and any diversions requirements.
    • Preparation of the full technical and engineering release packs for tender purposes.
    • To ensure the delivery of information in line with agreed programmes and budgets.
    • To assist in implementing departmental objectives and procedures.
    • Provide support and accurate technical and engineering information for all internal departments, including Technical, Commercial, Production, Sales & Customer Services in line with any company goals and programmes.
    • Check and review technical and engineering details and reports for accuracy and completeness.
    • Evaluation of changing regulatory standards and product information to ensure effective and cost-effective delivery of residential schemes.
    • Attend all requisite external and internal meetings, including regular land and development progress meetings.
