Prisoner Custody Officer, Perth Vehicle Base
Permanent contracts available on 35, 38 and 45 hours (based on location/shift pattern), with regular overtime available although not guaranteed.

You will join on an hourly rate of £13.25 per hour.

If you are a driver with D Licence you will be eligible to receive an hourly allowance (non-pensionable) when driving of an additional £2.75 per hour.

Basic Annual Earnings excluding overtime

  • 35 hour contract = £24,115
  • 38 hour contract = £26,182
  • 45 hour contract = £31,005
  • 38 hour contract, D-Licence Driver = £31,616

GEOAmey provide all court custody and prisoner escorting services in Scotland between prisons, police stations and courts as well as supervising all prisoner visits outside of the prison system including hospital appointments and such things like family funerals.

What is involved in this job
  • The people in your care and custody will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure they are met
  • Ensuring the people you will be responsible for are always treatedwith dignity and respect whilst maintaining a safe, secure, and structured environment
  • You have full responsibility for every aspect of the physical and mental wellbeing of adults in your care to ensure they are safe and secure
  • You will liaise with Prison and Police authorities, ensuring all documentation is completed and correct, carrying out risk assessments on vulnerable or at-risk prisoners
  • You will escort, supervise, and transport prisoners from courts, police stations or prisons
  • You will escort, supervise and transport prisoners to and from hospitals or other outside visits such as family funerals
  • You will be responsible for your vehicle each day, carrying out external and internal checks and making sure it has the right equipment and consumables for the day, like food and water.
Back Shift working hours
If you join us working a back shift, you will be on a 35-hour contract and operate on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern with one additional shift per month to make up your hours. Shift times are 13.00 - 22.00. You will also be eligible for mileage and travel time from your allocated base.

What experience do I need?
You do not need it; your personal attributes are more important as we provide you with a six-week comprehensive full time training programme followed by a full week of job shadowing. This ensures you will be fully prepared to take on the roleand responsibilities of a front-line Prisoner Custody Officer. We are looking for you to have the right behaviours to care for and help people; you will need empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations - we teach you the technical 'stuff' in the classroom.

A basic level of physical fitness and flexibility is however required so that you can carry out the role safely.

A full UK driving licence is required for working within the vehicle base.
