Procurement Manager

Package: Circa £60k/65k (Negotiable) + Extensive Benefits

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Cheshire

Accountabilities

  • Full responsibility for purchasing external expenditure, covering aircraft raw materials & components, overheads and capital expenditure.
  • Identify & develop a strategic supply base to minimise business risk and, through an established SIOP process, continues to meet the needs of the business and its customers.
  • Manage supplier selection and performance measurement ensuring that all materials are delivered on time to support the companies’ own external delivery performance targets and to the required quality standard to meet customer and regulatory body requirements.
  • Manage stock levels to support manufacturing requirements and financial targets.
  • Achieve budgeted cost targets, ensuring that all external expenditure delivers value for money and is sourced through ethical means.
  • Ensure that commercial contracts are in place with key strategic suppliers, reflecting current legal practice and, where appropriate, flow-down relevant customer contract requirements.
  • Manage and develop the Purchasing team to meet the current and future needs of the business.
  • Work with the CFO to ensure that supplier strategy is aligned with the overall supply chain objectives.
  • Ensure Company standards of professionalism and discipline are adhered to.
  • To maintain a high level of activity and enthusiasm for the continuous improvement of processes, product and people.

Duties and Responsibilities

Tactical Purchasing:

  • Respond to output from ERP system - convert to PO and communicate to suppliers (including maintenance of Vendor Schedules via EDI links);
  • Respond to exception messages to expedite / de-expedite /cancel supply;
  • Manage open PO and resolve supply chain issues, escalating to CFO as required;
  • Ensure that data in the ERP system is accurate and complete.
  • Implement Engineering Change requirements; 
  • Manage supplier performance, reporting on supplier OTIF and quality metrics. Implement corrective action and improvement plans.
  • Manage stock levels, balancing customer requirements with working capital targets;
  • Indirect & capital expenditure purchase management; negotiate and manage Service Level Agreements;

Strategic Purchasing:

  • Implement effective performance measurement systems and, working with the Quality Department, develop a Supplier Vendor Rating system.
  • New supplier sourcing & selection (poor OTIF & quality performance, single-source risk reduction, capacity changes (growth or consolidation);
  • Manage the Request for Quote (RFQ) process; price management and contract negotiation; develop T&C;
  • Working with the CFO, integrate key suppliers into a supply chain partnership – negotiating and reducing lead-times;
  • Provide assistance to the New Product Introduction team with regard to new aircraft contracts, materials, processes and suppliers;

Person Specification

  • Graduate and CIPS qualified;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a purchasing environment; preferably within the Aerospace engineering sector.
  • Broad-based engineering background with an ability to interpret engineering drawings and understand manufacturing processes; particularly composite and metallic detail fabrication.
  • Numerate, analytical and articulate (written and verbal);
  • Strong IT skills, particularly ERP systems and MS Excel & PowerPoint;
  • Project Management skills (NPI, new materials, suppliers, kaizen)
  • An awareness of AS9100, BSI and working within this framework would be an advantage.
  • Good working knowledge & experience of Lean Enterprise
  • Experience of ISO9001 and Quality Management techniques;
  • Experience of producing and negotiating purchasing contracts;
  • Confident, enthusiastic, organised and resilient;
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels;
  • Ability to apply reason and persuasion in order to promote action and implement change; strong leadership skills;
  • Good at problem solving with the ability to work as part of a team and individually with minimal supervision;
  • Previous responsibility for people management and individual and team development;
  • Flexible in approach and be prepared to work additional hours as required;
  • Must be prepared to travel, both in UK and internationally;
  • Must have full clean driving license.
