Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Publishing Director to lead our publishing division. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in traditional publishing, digital publishing, or audio publishing, with a proven track record of success. Additionally, experience with Direct IO (Insertion Orders) is essential. The Publishing Director will oversee the strategic direction, operations, and financial performance of the publishing department, ensuring high-quality content delivery and innovative growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans for the publishing division, aligning with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Content Development: Oversee the acquisition, development, and production of high-quality content across various formats, including print, digital, and audio.
  • Direct IO Management: Utilize expertise in Direct IO to manage advertising campaigns, ensuring effective placement and optimization of ads to maximize revenue.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of editors, writers, marketers, and other publishing professionals.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Prepare and manage the publishing division’s budget, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research to stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and reader preferences to inform strategic decisions.
  • Partnerships and Networking: Establish and maintain relationships with authors, agents, publishers, distributors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Operational Excellence: Streamline processes and implement best practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality within the publishing division.
  • Performance Metrics: Set and monitor KPIs to measure the success of publishing initiatives and campaigns, and report on performance to senior management.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Publishing, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in publishing, with a significant portion in a leadership role. Experience in audio publishing and Direct IO is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of publishing processes, including editorial, production, marketing, and distribution.
    • Proficiency in managing Direct IO (Insertion Orders) and optimizing ad placements.
    • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
    • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
    • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
    • Proficient in relevant software and tools used in publishing and advertising.
