Pupil Engagement Support Assistant - Southampton

Academics are supporting an SEN School in Southampton with their recruitment for September. They are looking to appoint a Pupil Engagement Support Assistant on a full-time contract starting in September. This is a permanent, term-time contract working 40 hours per week, £25,000.

The school is a mixed 7-19, LEA funded, SEN day school for children, most of who are able learners with an EHCP and a diagnosis with ASC and associated needs.

Their Behaviour Support Teams are responsible for ensuring that students are able to manage their social, emotional and/or mental health needs, and therefore succeed in their learning. You will be on call throughout the day to support students, to help them de-escalate when in crisis, and to help them make things right after any incidents. You will also be required to support students with pastoral issues such as well-being, safeguarding and attendance.

The ideal candidate for the role of Pupil Engagement Support Assistant will ideally already have experience in this kind of setting, or possess related experience of positive behaviour management of physical interventions and working with challenging, vulnerable children and young people. You must be someone who is creative and resilient. You will need experience in report writing and offering different strategic approaches.

You will work with the wider school to ensure that they meet their aim in ensuring all children make great progress academically as well as with their social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GCSE, or equivalent, grade 4 or above in English and Maths.

Experience:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, such as autism, SEMH, and ADHD, is preferred.
  • Training in aspects of SEN, i.e., ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, is advantageous.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and listening skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and establish good working relationships.
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Ability to quickly build effective working relationships with pupils and colleagues.
