We have a fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Mechanic at Tameside Council. This is a full-time temporary role for the next 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Tameside Council are looking for a Qualified Mechanic to carry out repairs and maintenance of all classes of vehicles, plant and equipment owned or operated by the council. Whilst ensuring compliance with operator licensing requirements and any other legislation to which the vehicle, plant or equipment is subject to.

What are your responsibilities?

  • The ability to work in a competent and efficient manner on your own or part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • The ability to carry out work to high standards.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach.
  • The ability to accurately follow written and spoken instructions.
  • Carrying out servicing, repairs and maintenance to authority vehicles equipment and plant.
  • Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose faults.
  • Repairing or replacing broken or defective parts and resolving defects.
  • Road testing vehicles to check repairs.
  • Following checklists to ensure all procedures are completed to the required standard.
  • Completing all documentation to the required standard.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous Qualified Mechanic experience.
  • Excellent People skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and senior managers.
  • Must be physically Fit and Healthy, as you will be required to lift heavy items.
  • Valid UK Driving licence
  • A certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance Level 3. 
  • Irtec qualification.
  • Agricultural machinery qualification.
  • Plant equipment qualification.
