Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in the rail industry? My client is looking for a highly skilled professional to join their team for an exciting and impactful rail project in Birmingham. This freelance role offers a competitive day rate and the chance to work on significant projects, including depot upgrades and track remodelling, all within the framework of NEC 4 contracts.

Key Responsibilities:Cost Analysis and Estimation:
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis for all project phases, including depot upgrades and track remodelling.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and budgets, ensuring all aspects of the project are covered.
  • Develop financial models to forecast project costs and track budget adherence.
Financial Management:
  • Manage and monitor project budgets, ensuring financial control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising on quality and safety.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews and audits to ensure budget compliance and mitigate financial risks.
Tender and Contract Management:
  • Prepare and evaluate tender documents, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Negotiate and manage subcontractor agreements, focusing on achieving the best value for money.
  • Administer NEC 4 contracts, ensuring all contractual obligations are met and managed effectively.
Project Progress and Reporting:
  • Monitor project progress against milestones, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on contractual matters, ensuring all parties adhere to the agreed terms.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between all project participants.
  • Address and resolve any financial or contractual issues that may arise during the project.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the rail industry, with a strong focus on depot upgrades and track remodelling.
  • NEC 4 Contracts: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with NEC 4 contracts.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and numerical skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of influencing and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in relevant software tools and applications, such as cost estimation and project management software.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Accreditation: Membership with professional bodies such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or ICES (Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors) is highly desirable.
