We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Renewable Energy Leader to join the team on a permanent basis. This crucial role will lead our renewable energy programme across the Anglian Water Group and our supply chain, in line with our purpose, delivering environmental and social prosperity to the region we serve. Successful delivery against our renewable energy targets (100% by 2030) is fundamental to our ability to deliver against our net zero carbon emissions.

The Renewable Energy Leader is accountable for the strategic direction, leadership, effective oversight and delivery of Anglian Water's renewable and energy storage programme. This includes the management and optimisation of our existing renewable asset base ensuring that we maximise the operational benefit and horizon scanning further opportunities across green hydrogen and low carbon heat.

What will you be doing?

  • The role will deliver significant value through reducing our energy costs - energy is our most significant controllable cost; and utilisation of renewable energy through 'behind the meter' and CPPA's provides one of our greatest opportunities to reduce our operational expenditure.

  • Creation of our long term renewable energy strategy, ensuring that the business is able to meet our renewable energy goals, and maintain efficiency into 2030 and beyond - aligning with our route map to net zero carbon.

  • The exploration, identification & analysis of opportunities in and around our region that provide the opportunity to deliver renewable energy to our business.

  • Development of business cases that exploit the energy and commercial opportunities associated with renewables and energy storage.

  • Evaluation and management of all available renewable energy opportunities to help drive decisions that create best value.

  • Ensure up to date understanding of renewables regulation and energy market mechanisms to ensure full alignment and business readiness.

  • Working with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that projects are developed successfully and are able to integrate with our operational assets without disruption.

  • Assurance that projects are delivered in accordance with relevant H&S and water industry standards.

  • Provide leadership and vision for the renewable energy programme with actions in place for successful and sustained delivery.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop & deliver our renewable energy strategy

  • Develop appropriate commercial routes to facilitate the utilisation of renewable energy

  • Engage & collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the renewables programme; and provide regularly communication and feedback to all stakeholders

  • Planning for future energy opportunities

  • Management & optimisation of existing and proposed renewable energy supply portfolio

What does it take to be successful?

  • Detailed knowledge and experience of developing renewable energy projects including 'behind the meter' and CPPA's

  • Experience in delivery of capital projects

  • Experience in carbon or energy management

  • Experience in programme management

  • Proven Team leadership skills

  • Proven experience of working in the water industry or a similar utility/infrastructure organisation

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship - An ability to see how new ideas can be transformed into business outcomes.

  • Detailed and reliable planning.
