Science Technician
  • Location: Kettering
  • Start Date: September
  • Salary: £120 - £150 per day
  • Job Type: Contract

We are seeking a dedicated Science Technician to join a secondary school in the Kettering area starting from September. This role is ideal for someone with a strong scientific and technical background who is passionate about supporting teaching and learning in a dynamic educational environment.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Support teaching and learning by developing Science resources efficiently and safely, providing technical support to the Science Teachers.
  • Prepare materials for students’ practical work, including IT-based activities.
  • Assist in producing technical information for staff and students.
  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety instructions regarding department resources such as tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Oversee and maintain department resources, reporting any necessary maintenance or repairs.
  • Demonstrate the use of equipment and materials to staff and students, focusing on safety.
  • Provide technical advice, assistance, and supervision to pupils during practicals, project work, and assessments.
  • Adjust and modify apparatus for students with SEND as needed.
  • Support teachers with coursework, delivery of work programmes, lessons, and assessments within the specialist area, including the staging of displays.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent scientific and technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices within a school science lab.
  • Experience in maintenance of science equipment.
  • Minimum A-Level Science and Grade A*-C in GCSE English and Maths.
  • Good IT and strong practical skills.
  • Ability to be a positive role model of professional practice and conduct.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain high standards in all areas of work.
