Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Location: Plaistow, London

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

About Us:

Our Plaistow provision offers specialist learning for up to 25 students with autism and communication needs for secondary to post-16.

Our Plaistow students are our more formal ASC learners who benefit from a more subject-specific curriculum. The site offers large classrooms, a therapy room and a common room where students can eat lunch, spend time socialising or develop their life skills in our fully equipped kitchen.

Our students are supported to develop skills and independence in subject-based learning with access to ASDAN qualifications E1 - L2. Plaistow also has a fantastic outside space which boasts a great gym, a sunken trampoline, a covered space and a large number of planters to support our students with their skills around horticulture.

Our school is ideally located in the heart of Newham close to local amenities and transport links which will support Educational visits.

Requirements:

  • Experience working as a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) or in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education is a plus.

Role and Responsibilities: As a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support the classroom teacher in delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students with personal care needs, where required.
  • Monitor and report on student progress to teachers and parents.
  • Help with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
