SEN Teacher - Primary - SEMH - PRU - Woking

The question:

Would you like to work with children who need additional support with their social, emotional mental health?

The opportunity:

The school is situated near Woking and supports boys and girls aged 5-11 who have a range of additional needs associated with social, emotional mental health challenges. It's a small school that offers a restorative, therapeutic approach to education and behaviour management. As a learning support assistant you will be working in classes of 4-6 pupils with a staff to student ratio of 1:1. The idea of the school is to help students to return to a more mainstream school setting.

What is involved:

  • Planning and delivering KS1 and/or KS2 lessons to students across the school
  • Ensuring that students understand and participate in set tasks in an appropriate way
  • Ensuring that all students are properly supported with their literacy and numeracy
  • Working with your teaching assistants to ensure that high standards of behaviour and learning are taking place
  • Encouraging the development of appropriate social skills
  • To ensure accurate individual student records are maintained
  • Participating in team meetings and training programmes as an active member of a team
  • Following regulations pertaining to safeguarding

What is required:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is highly desirable, but not essential
  • If you do not have QTS, then a substantial level of experience working with challenging students is needed
  • Due to school location you must have a driver's license and access to a car
  • Good general education levels in English and Maths
  • Knowledge, keen interest or understanding of the range of different types of learning and behavioural needs (SEMH, PRU)
  • Ability to adapt to a various working environments and students with differing abilities and unpredictable behaviour

  • Although we are still waiting for the office part of the building to be completed the remainder is newly refurbished including all classrooms
