Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Full-time - September Start

Salary: £85 per day

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children who struggle to come to school due to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges? As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a crucial role in creating a supportive and nurturing environment for these students. Here’s what the role entails:

  1. Personalised Support:

    • Offer 1:1 assistance to pupils with SEMH needs, adapting teaching techniques to foster their confidence and independence.
    • Understand the unique challenges faced by these students and provide tailored support.
  2. Collaboration and Planning:

    • Work closely with teachers to plan and deliver activities that engage learners wherever they are in their learning journey.
    • Support pupils during transitions and daily routines, ensuring a positive experience at school.
  3. Emotional Well-being and Social Skills:

    • Help pupils regulate their behaviour and emotions.
    • Encourage positive interactions and social skills, promoting a sense of belonging.
  4. Contribution to Assessments:

    • Contribute to formal SEND assessments, sharing insights with families and home schools.
    • Treat each child as an individual, recognising their unique needs.
  5. Swift Return to Education:

    • Our goal is to facilitate a swift return to long-term education settings, even for students facing SEMH challenges.
  6. Teamwork and Holistic Development:

    • Collaborate with other teaching assistants, teachers, and support staff.
    • Develop learners’ life skills, preparing them for adulthood and the world of work.

Requirements:

  • Compassion, patience, and flexibility.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A genuine interest in helping children succeed.
  • Experience in schools, education settings, or alternative provisions is necessary.
