Senior Backend / API Developer - PHP or Python | £50K-£60K | Wakefield - On-site

We’re seeking a Senior Backend Developer or API Developer to play a key role in the modernisation of internal systems. This is a hands-on opportunity to help replace a monolithic PHP platform with scalable, service-oriented APIs across all areas of a growing business.

As a Senior Backend / API Developer, you’ll work alongside the lead developer to define architecture, build APIs, and implement best practices across a new modular ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities for the Senior Backend Developer:

  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs using FastAPI (Python) or Laravel (PHP)

  • Shape service boundaries and data flows for internal systems

  • Document and maintain API standards, including OpenAPI specifications

  • Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration

  • Define strategies for scaling, security, and observability

About You:

  • Proven experience as a Back-End Developer building APIs in real-world systems

  • Skilled in Laravel (PHP) or FastAPI (Python), with a clean code approach

  • Solid understanding of relational databases - especially MariaDB or MySQL

  • Strong grasp of version control, testing, and deployment best practices

Salary & Benefits:

  • £50,000 - £60,000 (negotiable) basic salary

  • Fully on-site in Wakefield (WF2)
