Senior Business Intelligence Developer – The Role:

The postholder will produce accurate, timely and accessible high level data reports & dashboards for internal and external stakeholders, develop BI using the appropriate toolsets The postholder will support the Business Intelligence Manager to develop and maintain core databases, tables, views, stored procedures and optimise the underlying reporting dataset and carry out regular and appropriate Data Warehouse administration and development.

The post holder will support the development and implementation of college quality improvement planning and support the curriculum and cross college teams with ad-hoc data requests & queries. The postholder will line manage, mentor and train the Apprentice Business Intelligence Developer, ensuring that development best practice, standards and conventions are met, tasks are logged, updated and routed to the correct channels and we regularly communicate with stakeholders on task progress.

Senior Business Intelligence Developer - Key Responsibilities:

- To utilise relational databases, spreadsheets, and other tools to produce a range of appropriate, high level, high quality, statistical and other reports

- To import, interrogate and extract data from the College systems, funding agency software, databases and other sources by designing and developing data queries

- To support the College’s quality improvement and business monitoring systems and processes by providing timely and accurate datasets and analysis for relevant measures (e.g., KPIs) and other ad hoc reporting as agreed by the Business Intelligence Manager and Director of MIS and Exams

- To take ownership of BI projects, design, update and publish a suite of Power BI Dashboards and Microsoft Reporting Services Reports to agreed specifications to enable College staff to dynamically query college system databases (EBS, ProMonitor, ProAchieve, 4CAST, Observation Live, Strata) and other available data sources used within the College

- To create and maintain strategic monitoring dashboards as directed by the Business Intelligence Manager and Senior Management

- Support the Business Intelligence Manager to develop and maintain core databases, tables, views, stored procedures and optimise the underlying reporting dataset and carry out regular and appropriate Data Warehouse administration and development

- To develop and maintain shared knowledge and documentation and procedures of all management information report sets and reporting systems and all current development projects

- To work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders in gathering business intelligence requirements and defining specifications to ensure that information needs are met via coherent, accessible and integrated systems; providing advice and guidance related to business intelligence design and content as appropriate

- Line manage, mentor and train the Apprentice Business Intelligence Developer, ensuring that development best practice, standards and conventions are met, tasks are logged, updated and routed to the correct channels and we regularly communicate with stakeholders on task progress

- Ensure all reporting systems are effective and efficiency issues are dealt with, to deliver reliability and promote confidence with the College’s systems

- Keep up to date with industry best practice for system & database development and administration

- Implementation and maintain data links between college data systems, e.g., ProMonitor, EBS, ProAchieve, Smart Assessor, 4CAST, Strata, ObservationLive

- Develop and maintain effective, consistent practices and processes to improve business effectiveness, while ensuring regulatory and statutory compliance is maintained

Senior Business Intelligence Developer - You:

- Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent) or commitment to gaining with 24 months of commencement of employment

- Level 3 qualification in relevant subject or significant experience in Producing High Level Data reporting & Dashboards for Senior Leadership or external Stakeholders
- Up to date working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel with knowledge of Microsoft Excel functions, pivot tables, formulas etc

- Extensive and recent experience, knowledge and the ability to read Entity Relational Diagrams for complex databases and be able to link multiple systems data into single outputs

Extensive and recent experience in Producing and presenting high level data reporting & Dashboards for Senior Leadership or external Stakeholders

- Significant and recent knowledge of querying data from relational databases, Data Warehouse design, optimisation of current data structures for Business Intelligence output

- Recent experience of using SQL Server Management Studio

- Recent experience of Visual Studio and Source Control to manage SSRS Reports, Databases, SSIS package versions

- Developing Solutions using C# to optimise bulk copy operations

- Extensive and recent experience of developing and maintaining ETL packages using SQL Server Integration Services and Visual Studio
