Senior Customs Clerk

Consortium are pleased to be representing a global business, with family roots, who are looking to hire an experienced Senior Customs Clerk. They are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to lead their Customs Team and ensure the smooth running of all import and export operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead, manage, and develop the Customs Team, including workload allocation, issue resolution, and training needs identification.
  • Oversee all aspects of import and export for the business, ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Possess a strong understanding of Road Freight operations between GB and the EU.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Incoterms.
  • Build strong relationships with European and Deep-Sea Container Carriers to guarantee on-time consignment releases.
  • Proficient in port systems like Destin8, CNS, and familiar with Transit Procedures, NCTS, and Customs Software.
  • Collaborate with hauliers to ensure timely document and information provision.
  • Troubleshoot clearance issues arising with hauliers or ports.
  • Resolve any post-clearance problems.
  • Submit IPAFFS declarations to pre-notify APHA of incoming plant/plant products.
  • Implement and maintain adherence to standard operating procedures, keeping the team updated on new regulations and processes.
  • Monitor and establish KPIs to ensure efficient clearances.
Qualifications:
  • Previous management/supervisory experience (preferred).
  • Proven ability to effectively train and develop others.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with a focus on clarity.
  • Team player with a commitment to customer satisfaction and supporting colleagues.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs regulations and the ability to complete CDS import/export declarations.
  • Commercial awareness with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a drive for continuous improvement.
Additional Information:
  • Experience in Freight Forwarding covering European and International import/export markets is a must
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation is desirable.
  • Understanding of ETSF operations is a benefit
