Senior DA Practitioner - Safe Accommodation Services (Volunteer Co-Ordinator)

As a Senior Domestic Abuse Practitioner (Volunteer Coordinator), you’ll lead on the day-to-day activities of a team of volunteers delivering support and co-delivering group programmes to women who have experienced domestic abuse. You’ll lead on supervision, training and volunteer recruitment, playing a key part in the ongoing growth, development and sustainability of the service.

Job requirements

  • Work in partnership with the Service Manager to design and develop all work activities to meet customer need, and to ensure that customers accessing the service receive a professional and coordinated response, with up to date, relevant advice and information.

  • Lead on all aspects of the recruitment, training, induction of volunteers, as well as all aspects of the delivery and day to day administration and supervision of volunteers and the volunteer programme.

  • Actively encourage customer involvement and participation in the planning, delivery and evaluation of group programmes. Co-deliver group programmes to customers when necessary.

  • Share your knowledge and skills to enhance the professional development of all staff and volunteers. Celebrate volunteer success and manage any capability issues quickly and professionally.

  • Make sure staff and volunteers attend team meetings where appropriate to maintain good communication within the service. This will also provide a forum to share concerns, experience and skills.

  • Respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns, demonstrating an understanding of safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

  • Make sure referrals are appropriate, or signposted to more suitable services. Make sure the right level of information is provided, that possible risks have been identified, assessed and effective risk management strategies have been put in place.

What they’re looking for

  • A good standard of education, for example GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.

  • Experience recruiting, training, managing or mentoring staff or volunteers.

  • Experience delivering training or group work.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk management.

  • An understanding of the effects that domestic abuse has on women, children and young people.

  • The ability to keep clear, concise and factual recordings of sessions and meetings.

  • The ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.

  • Clear and effective communication skills and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to engage a range of audiences and facilitate volunteer training.

  • Able to work positively within a team to assist the development of the service, and able to work effectively with other professionals and agencies.

  • Able to work flexibly, including some hours outside of regular business hours.

  • Full UK driving licence with use of your own vehicle for work.

  • DBS check every three years.
