Senior Grounds Technician - Bedfordshire

Pertemps is currently recruiting for a Senior Grounds Technician to join a local College.

The main purpose of this role is to oversee and undertake grounds maintenance duties across the sites and ensure they are maintained to a high standard.

Salary: £26,781

Hours: 8 am-5 pm

Duties:
  • To line manage the Grounds Technician, including the managing of annual leave requests, setting of objectives, and carrying out appraisals and development reviews. To ensure that all training and development needs are fully met in line with the relevant college procedures.
  • To manage the college's online system to ensure that the checks and tests are completed on time and any defects are resolved or reported to the Estates & Facilities Manager.
  • To manage the college's online Estates & Facilities request system and organise the allocation of work to ensure that jobs are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the gardens, grounds, roads, pathways, sports fields, and all boundaries to all Bedford College Group sites
  • To work alongside, advise, and oversee any external contractors that are appointed to undertake larger landscaping/tree works.
  • To carry out small hard landscaping works including the installation of fencing, paving, and hard-standing areas.
  • To have a sound understanding of Health & Safety/COSHH regulations and to ensure they are complied with.

Requirements:
  • Appropriate horticulture qualification at level 2 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years horticultural experience
  • Trained to operate horticultural, tractors, machinery, and grass-cutting equipment, both rotary and cylinder
  • Trained to handle hedge-cutting and trimming equipment Manual Handling qualification
  • Level 2 COSHH qualification
  • Previous supervisory experience of line managing a team effectively
