Contract length: Until 31/04/2025, covering maternity leave
Pay rate: £35,000 per annum
My client is part of a family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.
The position of Senior Analyst is within their Rapid Diagnostics laboratory located at Abingdon, UK.
This role requires the individual to undertake operations within the screening and confirmation department. The analysis of drugs of abuse in biological samples is conducted by either immunoassay (CEDIA & HEIA) or by confirmatory techniques (such as LC/MS/MS), or by a combination of both. Analysts must perform all analyses to appropriate safety standards, conform to current documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and must ensure that all analyses are conducted to the highest quality standards, whilst being completed in a timely manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Routine work - Daily
- Extractions
- Preparing lab reagents
- Running and saving SSTs
- Daily basic equipment checks and maintenance
- Keeping lab up to safe and efficient working standards (i.e. checking expiry dates)
- Maintenance of screening instruments including making reagents and QC's where appropriate
- Equipment validations (i.e. Heaters, Fridges, Freezers, Pipettes)
- 1st and 2nd review (processing & approval) of data
- QC trending and monitoring
- Scheduling the workload (Analyst and instrument utilisation)
- Authorisation of negative samples in screening as required
- Maintenance of all instruments including making reagents and QCs as required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
- Science Graduate, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of appropriate analytical equipment in order to troubleshoot assay problems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years prior experience in a laboratory environment
- Previous experience with the requirements listed in Responsibilities
- Previous experience within Quality, Health and Safety and team training

- Conform with appropriate safety standards under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
- Work in accordance with the current documented Standard Operating Procedures. Abbott Toxicology is an ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 certified laboratory.
