About the Role

Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland.

If you live outside of Scotland, we can offer relocation assistance and are open to discussion.

Salary: £63,000 - £94,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the just transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK’s electricity network and in doing so power the UK’s net zero ambition. Our business is rapidly growing, to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland’s electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years.

SSEN Transmission strives for leadership in sustainability. As Senior Manager, Sustainability at SSEN Transmission, you will be responsible for our sustainability strategy encompassing the main themes of climate, nature, communities, people, procurement, and performance. In addition to ensuring our strategy stays relevant and ambitious, you will develop action plans for delivery, track performance and ensure the accurate preparation and publication of our Annual Sustainability Report. This role will report to our Head of Strategy sitting in the Business Planning and Commercial directorate.

The responsibilities of the Senior Manager, Sustainability include:

- To develop our sustainability strategy, ensuring a rigorous approach to setting the strategy and goals, with regular reviews to ensure materiality and relevance.

- Show leadership in our carbon strategy, in line with international best practice, and our approach to sustainable infrastructure development working closely with colleagues in capital development and delivery.

- Cross functional working with colleagues across SSEN Transmission to prepare “whole business” sustainability action plans to deliver our holistic sustainability strategy and meet regulatory requirements.

- Internally lead a community of sustainability best practice, establishing an internal communications campaign, and externally representing SSEN Transmission on all matters relating to sustainability and building key relationships with stakeholders.

- Act as a subject matter expert for the sustainability data and digital project, to digitise source data into one common platform; whilst ensuring clear definition and sourcing of data required for non-financial statutory, regulatory and ESG/climate related disclosures.

- Support and develop your team to ensure “best in class” performance, aligning reporting requirements with accurate interpretation and presentation of data and sourcing including preparation of SSEN Transmission’s Annual Sustainability Report.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Extensive, demonstrable experience across ESG disciplines, ideally combined with understanding of the energy industry.

- Clear understanding of the analytical and strategic techniques for sustainability strategy development.

- An action-orientation towards the implementation and delivery of sustainability strategy goals, taking the lead on tracking and reporting on performance.

- Experience in confidently operating outwith your own area of expertise, in particular with cross discipline engagement with engineering, financial and technical specialists to harness their expertise.

- Proven capabilities in team development, naturally coaching and mentoring to deliver outstanding performance and a positive, inclusive culture.

- Previous experience in horizon scanning and research into international leading sustainability practice, to deliver core sustainability polices for climate, capital investment and disclosure.
